The amount of people using the highway bus system in Japan is increasing and it's a lot cheaper than taking the Shinkansen (but takes more time).rnrnIt's a great option for budget travelers that is often overlooked.

This dual mode bus/train has four rubber wheels and four metal wheels which means it can go from the road to the track seamlessly. It's more fuel efficient too!

If you regularly hop between Asia's biggest cities (which I can't imagine you'd want to with all that fingerprinting nonsense going on), you might be interested in Japan's plans to create a bus and train pass which can be used in all of Asia's major cities. Apparently Japan thinks this is a go
