Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and the Japanese Space Agency (JAXA) have teamed up to create a telecommunications satellite capable of delivering 1.2 GigaBytes per second to internet users. That amount isn't shared, either. Although most of us will not make use of this kind of speed in the next few years, this will open the doors to telemedicine and long-distance operations.

Of course, it's just a matter of time before there are more of these satellites in orbit ready to give us all a 1.2 GB connection in our home.

It might be time for some web hosts to start sweating.
