The Japan Times is starting a series based on letters written by an American woman living in occupied Japan from 1947-1948.
This sounds like it will offer some great insights into the lives of foreigners at this time.

And with little to no makeup, as well, IMO....If I were you, I'd wear a face mask on the trains just like everybody else does. As...Good point. I used to love living on Yen and watching the dollar drop in value....So, um, how does one find his/her rooms.
And do they come gaijin-size?...That's not very surprising to me. Almost comparable with American society.
