I don't know how much you guys know about the recent conflicts with environmentalists and Japanese whaling fleets. Environmentalists and some countries like the US and Australia argue that whales are endangered, Japan argues that if the US and Europe hadn't wiped them out the last century, there'd be no problem. What's your opinion? I tried whale in 2004 in Japan and it was delicious...

Ha. The environmentalists are a bit daft I think. Not every single species of whale that the Japanese hunted were endangered. These issues inspire more emotions than logic and common sense.
Personally, I feel that controlled hunting that does not endanger a species chance of furthering its population's numbers is ok and even healthy. The West needs to get over itself sometimes. I'm an American and even I see our hypocrisy.

You gotta love how the Japanese claim the whales are for "scientific research" however.

Yeah, that is obviously not what this is all about. I think the Western nations that dislike whaling need to be a little bit more honest with themselves and adjust the law to allow for actual commercial whaling. That way Japan and other nations can drop the entire research facade.

Sea Shepherd members are not environmentalists.
Their anti-whaling campaign has everything to do with their misguided belief that whales are superior beings to humans, and nothing to do with the environment.

Uh oh ... if anyone from that whack-job & nut-case club hears you say such a thing, they'll track you down and start throwing smelly crap at your house!
What I don't get about the Japanese vessels, though, is why they're so darned polite about the whole Sea Shepherd thing. If I were the captain of a vessel and there were terrorists out there risking the lives and safety of my crew in open and international waters, I'd drop the hammer on their asses and sink a few vessels.
Survival of the fittest, and violence in the name of self-defense. Animals do it all the time, so why should people in open water be any different?
Oh sure, there are exceptions to this rule ... but when it comes to the dolts on these "crusading vessels", I'm sure nobody will pick up the cause to mourn the loss of life or miniscule amount of pollution caused by sinking an oil-powered vessel in the ocean.

From the article: "Members of the Sea Shepherd Conservation group are suspected of planning to attack a Japanese whaling research vessel using radio-controlled planes painted as WWII Zeroes, according to the Tokyo police's Public Security Bureau, in information released following the issue of arrest warrants for three members of the activist group on Monday."
Yeah ... I'm sure that'd "fly" with the general public. Bad enough they're making a mockery of the Kamekazi thing, but how many of these dolts are American and have families that have been living in fear ever since 9/11?
Yeah ... real smart -_-

I think the leader of the organization is actually Australian.
EDIT: Opps. He is actually Canadian.

Not for much longer. I'm sure the Canadian Government will kick him out if he keeps up his stupid antics.

environmentalists are like other people by any means. They seem to have a problem with humans being king of the planet. I really don`t see why they do not like being at the top of the food chain.
They should learn to enjoy it and stop complaining. I am willing to be if they lived, as say, a rat for just one day they would be grateful that they are human.

oooh, tossing "smoke candles" is considered violent?
Ludicrous. Whales should not be murdered (please everyone use the correct term) for any means. Nor should any other animal for that matter.

I reckon that if someone were to walk into your office and chuck a bottle of that at you and you co-workers, you might consider it to be an act of violence, no?

They tossed Butyric Acid, which can be extremely hazardous if it is inhaled or comes in contact with the skin. (http://avogadro.chem.iastate.edu/MSDS/n-butyric_acid.htm)
