A respected carpet-weaver in Iran has dedicated some of his carpets to UNESCO, the International Paralympic Commitee and Japan. The carpet given to Japan shows the atomic bombing of Hiroshima on one side and global reconstruction on the other. What do you guys make of this? Iran seems to be reaching out for friendship recently, such as the meeting between the Iranian president and Iraqi prime minister in Baghdad.

Iran has been in discussions recently with quite a few countries and yes, I do feel they after support. Russia is one of these countries and I can't help but feel that Iran at the moment feels bullied by America.
This is not to say America is in the wrong or Iran is in the wrong but when rhetoric coming from America includes very aggressive language, in my opinion, it is to conclude that Iran wants more friends and support.

"Bullied"? Maybe Iran should be "bullied" a little for all of the rhetoric they have thrown the world's way. Their president has routinely made anti-semetic remarks, evening declaring the holocaust never happened. Their country oppresses any other religion besides fundamentalist Islam through brutal means. Iran has made claims of nuclear capability and their willingness to use it on Israel. Members of their military have been caught shipping arms to many countries around the world, including Iraq.
We had to get tough on Hitler, so maybe the U.S. needs to get tough on Iran. Even the United Nations has actively taken a pro-American stance by directly codemning Iran and imposing strict sanctions on them. Who else is going to do it?
As a side note, people must remember that three countries actively sought to make a nuclear weapon during WWII: Germany, Japan and the U.S. Only the U.S. succeeded. It is unfortunate that the Japanese seek not identify that part of equation (or Pearl Harbor for that matter) when routinely re-visiting Hiroshima.

There was quiet a lot of history before "Pearl Harbor" that led to the attack and America did force Japan's hand on this. I'm not saying Japan was right but I am saying that Japan was provoked into the attack.
Japan has unfortunately a terrible Human rights record as does many other countries however, there are two sides to every story and we tend to hear a lot more about America's side.
Yupyup, you are right in saying that the rhetoric coming from Iran is bad to say the least but, when the American president uses phrases such as "Military option is on the table" this does not allow for much diplomacy where as in the North Korean affair, diplomacy is all they talk about while millions are starving.
America is in a difficult situation of having to choose which conflicts they enter. They do obviously have a limit to their power but the thing that irks me and many others is the fact that they claim to act like the international police, but only enter conflicts that can enhance their power.
Have not seen America rush into Chad or Dafor of late have we? Stopping genocide is obviously not on their list to do things!!

PS This is not America bashing this is American Government bashing. I have many wonderful American friends, have been to America and seen many beautiful places and really do think the country is very nice indeed. I just wish the American Government tried a little harder in understanding the role they need to play.
I know they are the biggest boy on the block so-to-speak and have to look after their own interests but geez, do they have to be so hypocritical when doing it?
