Yokozuna Asashoryu has withdrawn on day 6 of the Nagoya basho. A couple of sources have confirmed that he has withdrawn because of a ligament injury in his left elbow.

Maybe he withdrew because he had a celebrity soccer match to play in this weekend.

I love your blog. I'm going to go on vacation soon, so I won't be able to watch the Basho. I'm glad I have an interesting place to go to read the highlights. Do you think Asashoryu is really injured or do you think he just withdrew as a protest after they stole that match from him?

Its hard to tell with Asa. I think he is probably somewhat injured, but I do feel that he pulled out at least in part, as a protest against that match. Clearly, he should have won and I think he knows that.
Of course this is all conjecture on my part, but I don't think I am alone in those thoughts.
