Cigarette vending machines across Japan are covered with notices about the taspo, an IC-chip equipped ID card that will be needed to use the machines. The application process is cumbersome, and it means giving JT your personal data, photograph, and a copy of your alien registration card. If you smoke, are you going to bother with taspo? Even if you don't smoke, are you okay about having your personal information stored on an IC chip? Could companies track your purchases?

I have noticed a huge movement towards a cashless society in Japan. The Taspo is just another part of this system. In the least it is getting even more people used to using a card to be able to buy a product. In my part of Tokyo which is Adachi-ku the Taspo is not required until July.
The Pasmo thing really brothers me. You can buy just about anything with a pasmo card these days in Tokyo. You can get your train ticket, buy a drink from a vent machine, and even buy lunch all with no cash needed. The Japanese seem not to noticed what is happening. They just go with it for the most part.
I for one have already given the Japanese government so much personal information about myself that I am tired of giving anymore of my personal information just to live. I don`t trust JT at all.
I wonder if Alex Jones is aware of the turn towards a cashless society in Japan?
