Wow. What an awful news story. These things always wrench my heart. The girl is obviously traumatized. I can only hope life returns to normal and she heals mentally and physically with time. The accused coach is most likely a very sick man. If not, his reputation is gone anyway. In any event, it's awfulness. Pure awfulness. If he's guilty - and his excuse ("I mistook her for my wife") sounds exceedingly lame - I hope they stick it to him. Power abuse and sexual predation. Ugh.

My wife thinks rapists should have their chin-chins cut off. This man should be grateful he doesn't live in a woman-run world.

With the recidivism rate as high as it is, it wouldn't be such a bad idea - provided you could absolutely ascertain whether or not a rape took place. There's no reversing a Bobbitt sentence. So, while I'd side with your wife if there were some way to prove it, I can't. Sigh.

OH man that is sick. If what he did is true then maybe he should be put to death. The problem is that rape is very hard to prove.

That's exactly why I can't go full in on the emasculation sentencing. But it really sickens me to think that actual rapists are spared the punishment that they deserve because we absolutely must not accidentally get the wrong guy. (Though I concede that it is unacceptable to swing the other way on that, obviously.) I wish there was some in-between. Or better yet, a foolproof method of proving it so that we could really nail rapists to the wall. I won't hold my breath though.

The infamous rape kit works pretty well in proving if a gal was raped and who raped her. The problem with it is that all the evidence needed to complete a rape kit must be collected within 24hr of the actual rape. A lot of gals will not report a rape until days, or sometimes years after the fact.
