Indeed Jordan and also Supermemo. From what I can tell, there is a real "movement" attached with SRS - many people who use it seem to be almost cult like in their espousal of it lol! So perhaps in your marketing it would be a good idea to be careful not to compare your system to Supermemo etc... unless it is based on Leitner's SRS algorythm just so as not to arouse their ire. From the forums I've looked at, any new software comparing itself to such applications can get a real dressing down in the community. In fact, that attitude has played a bit of a role in my failure to try it yet - I am suspicious of anything which evokes scientology-like devotion lol!

Although the joke is about how the guys are making their wives/girlfriends do the hard work of rowing the boat, I half suspect that it's the girls cracking the whip, demanding they have their turn with the oars. My wife was like that the other week. I rented an 8-seater van for a cross-prefecture drive, but once she got behind the wheel, she had so much fun that she wouldn't let me drive anymore!

Hey Matigo, just fyi SRS stands for spaced repetition software. That is the term for programs like Anki. :-)

Yeah, that is obviously not what this is all about. I think the Western nations that dislike whaling need to be a little bit more honest with themselves and adjust the law to allow for actual commercial whaling. That way Japan and other nations can drop the entire research facade.

Hi raist, from the FAQ: ---- 13. My avatar won't show up! Unfortunately, only jpeg images seem to be working with avatars, and if you find there's a loss of quality, it's probably because your image has been automatically shrunk to 30x30px. For best results, upload a 30x30px .jpg image. ---- This is a problem which will be fixed on the next upgrade. I've reset your avatar in the database to the default, so go ahead and try again. If you have any more problems, send me a private message (add me as a friend, then go to your friends list and send message), or use the Contact form (in the footer). Cheers, Nick.

Sea Shepherd members are not environmentalists. Their anti-whaling campaign has everything to do with their misguided belief that whales are superior beings to humans, and nothing to do with the environment.

You gotta love how the Japanese claim the whales are for "scientific research" however.

Anki works on Windows, OSX and Debian, however, QuickStudy works on Windows Mobile. Anki has a dictionary, QuickStudy does not (yet). Anki has useful reporting, QuickStudy does not (yet). Well ... I guess I could knock QuickStudy down quite a bit, but it's only an Alpha. The biggest advantage to QS is that it's mobile. In the not-too-distant future, this will also be made available for cell phones running SymbianOS (Nokia phones) and other platforms :) The world is mobile.

I'm not sure what you mean by SRS, however, the next release will take into account how often a question is memorized, and how often it's marked for review. The mathematics is down (well ... on paper), and I just need to implement it in the code. The next release will do the following: * make use of memorization algorithm on difficult items * allow for multiple-choice question/answers * export custom-made quizzes Of course, a few of the rough spots will be ironed out as well. By version 0.2, I hope to support things such as images, mp3's, and user-written answers :) If there's anything in particular that you think would be a great feature, please let me know.

Ha. The environmentalists are a bit daft I think. Not every single species of whale that the Japanese hunted were endangered. These issues inspire more emotions than logic and common sense. Personally, I feel that controlled hunting that does not endanger a species chance of furthering its population's numbers is ok and even healthy. The West needs to get over itself sometimes. I'm an American and even I see our hypocrisy.

I don't know how much you guys know about the recent conflicts with environmentalists and Japanese whaling fleets. Environmentalists and some countries like the US and Australia argue that whales are endangered, Japan argues that if the US and Europe hadn't wiped them out the last century, there'd be no problem. What's your opinion? I tried whale in 2004 in Japan and it was delicious...

I lived in Nagoya when they were building the JR Central Towers. It was an awesome site watching those towers grow. Then long after I had moved up to Gifu, I went down to Nagoya for a day and whamo! There was this big ole' Midland Square building standing shoulder to shoulder with the towers. It was like they built it overnight!

It does look good as a flashcard app - definitely good luck with it - but, though it says it is a version of Supermemo, I'm not clear if it is actually an SRS app though - is it?

Heading over to have a look at it now, Matigo. A quick question - how does it differ from Anki (also based on SRS and which my husband uses but I have not got into yet)?

If it works fine for you then that's great but I found I couldn't work out even how to use them - even with the canon with the English OS I couldn't find which dictionary to search since it was all in Japanese (except occasionally the word "Oxford"). If you have a little more Japanese or someone to help you learn how to use it then that's great but as a dependant wife of a company transferee without a job to go to where there are Japanese speakers around to help I found them all impossible. This one I could use straight out of the box without even reading the documentation! What works for some won't necessarily work for others...

It may have been a bit harsh, but you have to forgive us as we've had recent issues with plagiarism and other things, so everyone might still be a bit testy. @goasia and @maggyj care to declare yourselves not dummy accounts?
