One of the more fascinating specialty talks I've heard was about Japan's menstrual leave policies and their socioeconomic impact on women. If you work in Japan, check your contract - it's likely in there. Whether it should be or not is a different matter. And whether it's a gesture only or meant for use is even more confusing. But yeah - check that out sometime. Really interesting topic.
Wow that's a new one to me! I can just imagine how that would fly in that states (not that it would get in a contract though)...
