I came across eGenki, a new Facebook-style social networking site for Japan. We've seen such sites before, but this one looks very promising. For one thing, it's built with Joomla and is most likely self-hosted. That tells me the owner is serious about making the site a success because of the work put into building, or at least understanding, the technical aspects of the site. On top of that, it looks great and is filled with fancy Ajax stuff to give it a really modern feel.
