While westerners are content with just a few smiley faces, usually made up of just two or three characters, Japan has dozens upon dozens of emoticons using their larger character sets. It's funny how Japanese people are portrayed as not displaying emotion, but they have so many ways of doing so in an email! JapanNewbie has some examples.

Ha ha - I just found this. Awesome. Selling snowmen to the Japanese. People buy...I'll try it if I can get my hands on it....Not quite as bad as Nakashima Mika's version (honestly what could be?), but...OH wait a minute...it is damn pricey for just a three pack....This might actually be good.
