An article from last year describes how prime-time TV viewing numbers have dropped in Japan. Apparently the Nintendo Wii is responsible. If so, do you think this is a good thing?

Except for the odd drama, I prefer to stay away from Japanese TV altogether. Anything "serious" is usually full of bias and misinformation, whereas anything "funny" tends to wear thin pretty quickly. Then you've got all those supernatural programs about talking to cats and connecting with the deceased.

Alternatively, could people be abandoning TV in favor of the internet? Many single people these days prefer a TV-ready laptop PC for their apartments, so perhaps the temptation to watch something on YouTube is adding to the decline?

The only thing stopping me from getting a Wii is the big kotatsu between the TV and the sofa! :)
