This doesn't surprise me nor does it upset me too much as some of the stuff was a just a tad off color and not very 'journalistic'. The newspaper also has a really bad habit of taking their articles off line very quickly and they don't seem to have a great archiving system. When you cite them as a source the link is dead not too long after which is very frustrating.

Mainichi has a reputation for really shoddy journalism, even on the Japanese side. Unfortunately, the alternatives aren't much better. The good thing about Mainichi is that its front page makes for easy navigation, and each story brings up several related-story links. Asahi and Japan Times are not very well-organized, IMO. Even though the writing is better at those two publications.

I always god a good chuckle out of Waiwai, but I guess that's because I knew "the score". I can see somebody misunderstanding if they were not familiar with it.
