I love the sounds of the cicadas as I walk home through the park in the evenings but I had no idea that it could make me deaf!

Jabbering schoolgirls on trains have already affected my hearing in a negative way.

Never knew that. I love the sounds of the cicadas as well. Very soothing for some reason.

Cicadas are the sound of Nagoya at the moment - so many that it almost just sounds like white noise from a speaker but I'm not surprised that it could make you deaf. On the way home from the supermarket the other day, as I approached the turn into my street the cicada sound suddenly developed a second chord, a much higher pitch joining the other and my ears started to ache. Once I turned and got away from the corner the higher pitch disappeared but my ears were sore for some time afterwards with a minute or two of tinitus every now and again for the rest of the day! Must have been some gang warfare going on over rights to the big tree on the corner ^_^

I remember when they first hit the streets this season. What the hell! I walk down the street to get a cup of coffee and I'm under attack form ear piercing trees screaming at me!
