I went to the Nagoya basho in the days of Musashimaru and Akebono. Watching sumo should be on every foreigner's things-to-do-in-Japan list.

Yes - sumo is a must-do. And now would be perfect! But I already went to a tourney in Osaka this year. Can't really manage another getaway just yet. Sigh. In any event, I hope Kotooshu clobbers everybody and does become the first European Yokozuna. Ganbare!

The Japanese make a big deal out of anyone who's not Japanese but takes top spot at a Japanese sport. I'd love to see some sumo, but I just can't escape to watch it quite yet.
Perhaps next year I'll find out about it sooner and go with my mother-in-law. She loves sumo, and anything to stay in her good books is fine by me
