A post on Nagoya's (and apparently Central Japan's) largest building - the new Midland Square Tower. The poster mentions that it contains "Toyota sales staff" - hope he never needs a job at Toyota and they read this - it's Toyota's Honsha and the bigwigs may take offence! Oddly he doesn't mention it's a great place to spend some time - there are several WONDERFUL restaurants in the building (highly, highly recommend the Shanghai restaurant - yum!), as well as the lovely food court/food hall (include a "Chocolate Cellar" and the excellent Cinema multiplex downstairs. A great place to go - with it's own underground walk straight to the station too (something Lucent Tower, the other main Toyota building also has - my husband spends much time walking between the buildings for meetings and need never see the Sun!)

Ack1 Actually he did mention the entertainment in passing - in the very first par - guess it wasn't effusive enough for me lol! It really is a favourite spot in Nagoya (when you have some cash admittedly!)

Hi DBR and Ack1
sorry my piece wasnt effusive enough. The summer heat and humidity tends to wilt my enthusiasm. In addition I made the school boy error of visiting Midland Square in the middle of Obon when the place was packed with families.
As for my comment about the sales staff I asked several Japanese friends concerning the Toyota employees and theres also a reference to sales staff in Avenues Winter 2006-07 page 7.I stand corrected
Finally thanks for the recommendation of the Shanghai restaurant .As I said the place was crowded so I didnt have time to sample the food court tho I did make a raid into Dean and Delucas ice cream cabinet
cheers

Hi! My "not effusive enough for me" comment was just meant as a humorous reason why I didn't notice it since I couldn't edit my post - it was a mea culpa rather than a criticism! Apologies if it came across the wrong way. There certainly is a Lexus and a Toyota show room in there and you could buy a car but I'm pretty sure it's more filled with the behind the scenes business of running Toyota - again my humour has failed to translate in text - sigh... I really must stop trying (teehee.)
I jSoc'd it because I enjoyed it very much - it was great to see unseen views of one of the places which swallows my husband for the majority of our lives here (that's only semi-humour there)
Been reading your blog for a long time now - I'm sure I'll be jSocing some more!

I lived in Nagoya when they were building the JR Central Towers. It was an awesome site watching those towers grow. Then long after I had moved up to Gifu, I went down to Nagoya for a day and whamo! There was this big ole' Midland Square building standing shoulder to shoulder with the towers. It was like they built it overnight!
