With Fall foliage in its peak, I head not to Kyoto but to the Kuju mountain range in Kyushu and I am pleasantly surprised by its splendid beauty and wealth of outdoor activities. Hiking for all levels, abundant onsen and ryoukan, and even a flower park, not to mention delicious bungoogyuu (Kobe beef's cousin). My experience is documented in video form with a short write up that is full of helpful links.
