"Dogs and Demons" is definitely a worthwhile read. For me, however, I always like to read at least two other books on a certain subject. It's my personal rule of three. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to compliment "Dogs and Demons" with two other books that cover the same or similar ground. I'm sure they're out there, though.
Any recommendations?

I think "Dogs and Demons" is the only book published in English that addresses the subject. I may be wrong though.

Slightly similar topics, but I'd suggest Tokyo Underworld by Robert Whiting and The Enigma of Japanese Power by Karel Van Wolferen.

Tokyo Underworld is due from Amazon any day as a recommendation from Shane after I was telling her about Havana Nocturne - seems she is in majority, REALLY wish it would hurry up now lol!
