I don't support Japan providing any assistance to the "war" in Afghanistan, but I do find it funny that it won't send troops because it's too violent. Better wait till it's safe!

Out of all the wars my country is involved in right now, Afghanistan is the only one with any shred of legitimacy. Unfortunately, our leaders didn't really want to wipe out Bin Laden or the Taleban, they wanted to pull off some pincer attack against Iran. Hopefully, my compatriots will not allow this to happen.
If they were really serious about avenging 9/11 we would be talking about how swift the war in Afghanistan was and how its great that its all over. Here we sit years later... A great shame indeed.

Indeed. The translation for Japan's reasoning behind not sending troops is a little lacking, but the actual reasons behind it are certainly valid. There's no need for the Japanese to pledge resources more towards this poorly executed "war" when their allies are already abusing much of this country's good will and money.
While sending a unified message to the enemies of Western idealism is certainly a noble gesture, it's not something that can be accomplished with a handful of soldiers and an exorbidantly un-managed budget.
