After celebrating the birthday of a Goto Tadamasa, an organized crime boss, actor and singer Kobayashi Akira was kicked out of the PGA. This comes in addition to a ban from NHK. I find it quite incredible that until recently, it has been okay for celebrities to publicly party with yakuza bosses and expect to keep their day jobs. Times are changing, though, so if you hang out with the wrong crowd, you might lose your golfing license!

That is really sad. It should not matter who someones friends are in the first place. If you do your job that is all that matters. Once a person leaves the office, whatever their office may be, I feel that are free to do whatever they choose.

It's not unusual. If you live in America a celebrity would endure the same scrutiny. "Ayers/Obama - a kid back then."
Japanese journalism is becoming more and more petty and intrusive. It's not uncommon for political figures or even celebs to have mafia connections. You can thank the leftist for this.
