I don't think this proves his innocence or guilt either way. I'd say it just shows he had nothing left worth living for.

The man has been in custody for over seven months. In that time, the US has been trying to get him sent to LA. Considering the cost and effort the US "Justice Department" has put into this, he knew that he'd never be found innocent, even if the real killer came forward and confessed.
It was either death by his own hand, or death by the US legal system. I would have probably chosen the same path

I am definitely disappointed by this. I was kind of looking forward the usual LA courtroom circus-show that this trial was shaping up to be. Some famous attorneys were set to be involved and I think there was a possibility that even the most cynical of people could've come to a reasonable conclusion regarding his guilt or innocence.

I'm glad he chose to off himself, spare us the drama. There's just way to much going on in the news today for this kind of crap. Plus, Japan doesn't need this kind of attention.
