By definition, the Japanese economy, the world's second largest, is now in recession. I often wonder if such things actually hurt the pockets of your average person?

This does matter to me a little, as I work in an area that typically gets hit pretty bad during times of economic strife. That said, there are still plenty of options available for a foreigner who refuses to give up.
