This just goes to prove that the true way to attain world peace is through the good ol' transfer of cash

You always do better by trading and talking to other nations then by fighting them.

Indeed. What I don't understand, though, is why people don't see this. All the hippies and activists who scream and shout "give peace a chance" and claim that world peace is some kind of "warm fuzzy feeling" or innocent children dancing in a park.
That's not peace. That's called "Sunday".
Peace is "not killing each other". It's okay to have an argument with someone, and it's even okay to occasionally shout and hollar. Violence, however, isn't necessary and neither should people just ignore any serious injustice that's been done to them. That said, what really motivates people to have peace with each other is the all-mighty promise of cash.
If Japan wasn't around, then Korea would have a really hard time standing out from the rest of the Asian countries. Sure, they've done quite a bit for the world in the last 20 years, but it wouldn't have happened without a great deal of investment from Japan and, by extension, the U.S..
Records have shown that over the last 800 years, Japan and Korea have enjoyed quite a bit of trade together, too. An interesting thing to note is how Korea's markets often see a boost that often follows one seen in Japan. On top of this, by allowing a great deal of trade and dialogue between the two nations, people are showing that they respect each other enough to buy each other's products and even have a discussion on any number of difficult and complex subjects. Hmm ... trade = "we respect your brains, and your products"
The dispute over Takeshima/Dokto is going to do far more harm to South Korea than it ever would Japan. Sure, Japan's imports might be reduced because our angry neighbour will likely find a way to prolong the border shipments, but that'll just hurt South Korea. Japan's exports might not sell as well because people don't want to see "Made in Japan" but, again, that will mostly hurt South Korea as the people have become accustomed to a certain standard of living and all the comforts that come with it.
My rant seems to have gone way off topic but, suffice to say, the transfer of cash is the best way to solve a dispute. Not only does it make us appreciate the other nations and their contributions to the world, but it allows us to sell our products and services there as well, which then benefits our own bank accounts. Petty bickering solves nothing.
