If Dear Leader has truly died, then it would be absolutely necessary for the small social elite rulers of the impoverished state to keep the illusion that he's alive. Any talk of such topics would be considered taboo and tantamount to suicide. In order to maintain order, the lie would need to be told over and over again.
Considering how many people wept themselves to death (apparently) when the first Kim kicked the bucket, the population may have a harder time letting go of this one.
Then again, perhaps this would give the angry South even more justification to invade in the name of unification....

If he is dead it would make perfect sense for the leadership to not tell the rest of the world. Kim has a huge cult of personality going on in North Korea; which is a major reason he has been able to remain in power. Mao created the exact same situation in China in order to remain in power despite lacking party support. The leadership of the North has been in a silent war with each other for years so a dead Kim would send a wave of chaos though the Communist party of North Korea. I really do not see the leaders of the North being able to pull this off for very long.; if in fact it is true.
