On January 11th, the first revision of the Kojien dictionary in 10 years (6th edition) hit. Mayumi K goes over some of the new entries in her excellent bilingual podcast. (She speaks and teaches Osaka-ben, as the name of her podcast might suggest, but provides standard Japanese on the page to ease comprehension.) So, arm yourself with the newest officially Japanese words, like "goosebumps," "whistleblower," "emoticon," "suicide attack," and more. Maybe you'll be surprised at some of the words you already know. Some of these I studied years ago at school! And hey, I bet all of you who have been accused of suffering from Metabolic Syndrome would have loved to scream the childish retort, "That's not even a word!" at the time. Too late, it is a word now. Enjoy!
