Ran across this blog with a simple but cool idea:
1)take pictures of signs in Japan (any sign will do)
2)transliterate the kanji into kana readings
3)translate/explain the meaning
Good for self-study!

I did a parody of the article...True, that D300 price is not so different fron new. If the guarantee is 12months on...I misread the title. I thought it was about skitching, so I was quite disappointed...I should have wrote that book. Hell, we Americans are the masters of pulling one...Jason>> I hadn't considered used. Might be pretty boring for that blogger to write those posts, but it does look like a nice studying exercise.
The "Japanese Sign Blog" links to the "Small Print" blog which is similar but might be more challenging for higher level students.

It only takes about five minutes to write a post, so it's pretty easy. And I'm only posting what I add to my own SRS anyway. I encourage anyone with time on their hands, and some Japanese source materials to start a blog. Some ideas include:
signs
ads
maps
ticket stubs, receipts
names on people's letter boxes
menus
pizza boxes
slogans on food
forms
pamphlets
tissue packs
things you hear people say on the train
games
clothing tags
etc.
Have at it.
