An otaku is defined as a geek, nerd or enthusiast and usually relates to someone addicted to manga - can it be applied elsewhere and should it be considered an insult?

I did a parody of the article...True, that D300 price is not so different fron new. If the guarantee is 12months on...I misread the title. I think in Japanese, the word "otaku" is slightly insulting.
