It doesn't tell us very much. All we know is that 90% of 2,600 Tokyoites are concerned about the environment, but take less action than those in seven other cities. That doesn't necessarily mean people in Tokyo don't do anything. I bet they use less energy and gasoline than their foreign counterparts (I'm basing that assumption on smaller apartments and use of public transit), and who says they have to give up their "convenient lifestyle" to be environmentally friendly? Is the problem just food packaging at convenience stores? What other conveniences in Tokyo are killing the planet?

But, remember, the poll was just about whether or not they're eco-minded; It wasn't about the overall part Tokyoites play in killing the planet.
Not to mention that the poll was aimed at people living in the richest cities, so I think it was meant to be tongue-in-cheek anyway.

Well, given Japan's huge food-waste and food-miles problem, the fact that people leave their cars running at the grocery/convenience store as a rule, the enormous waste from unnecessary packaging (my plastic mayonnaise bottle comes in a separate plastic bag? what?)and this article (oh, and this oneI have serious doubts about Japan's reputation as a "green giant."
This article doesn't surprise me at all. Japan talks about the environment, and does nothing. America does nothing, and admits it. Which is better?

Well if you really know the actual facts you will know that global warming is not caused by humans. The planet does this all the time. It is very normal for the planet to have shifts in the climate.
I can tell you this. The government of Tokyo makes up go through our trash and separate it. Not only that we can only throw away certain kinds of trash on certain days. This does not really do much to help the environment. What it does do is help the contractors who process the trash by cutting the labor force needed. It is a way to increase profits while tricking the people into thinking they are helping mother earth. Do you see how this works? I hope that you do.
