There has been talk about the necessity of the katakana character set, and the obtusely irregular usage of Katakana English, a variation of English that often leaves native speakers of the language scratching their head in confusion.

One particular Japanese English language specialist thinks that the problem exists in the schools, and that more should be done to make sure students can effectively communicate with English speakers.
