I've written an article for Japan bloggers, showing how you can use JapanSoc to boost your traffic. The main point is that when you submit articles to JapanSoc or other social bookmarking sites, you should use unique titles and personalize the story's summary. Otherwise, you're just competing with yourself for the same keywords in Google and co!

I think you are right in putting the extra time and effort to write a new title or a different opening. But I also think that SEO has gone out of hand. I see and read more and more blogs that their reader is Google bot and not a human being. You see same ideas repeated line after line in different words, you see out of context bold words (and you understand that is are keywords for Google), and you just get the feeling that the entire post could have been written in one sentence. Therefor, I recommend all bloggers (not just Japan ones) to write first of all to yourself. Think on what makes an interesting post to you, and what will attract you to read it. Leave the SEO for later.

Well said. It's no good getting new readers if you can't keep them. Funnily enough, Google gives the same advice: write for your readers, not for the search engines.

Exactly! The best advice I was ever given as a writer was to write that you know and what others will be able to relate to on some level.

This was a very useful and informative read. I will now use different titles when submitting to JapanSoc.
I follow the same philosophy of writing for yourself. I've gotten slightly tainted lately when I switched to WordPress because of becomes stats obsessed. But I am trying to tame that.
Basically, what I write about is what I'd like to read on another friend's website.
I personally know people who write about things they wouldn't read about on other people's websites and actually don't like websites that blog the same things they blog!
