I wonder out loud here at EAF if anyone at JapanSoc wants to play, would like to share an opinion, help finish the sentence…

You know you qualify to have a valid opinion on Japan when…..

I’ll start it off with a few of my own.

Soc'd, half because I'm curious to see what kind of creative additions people can add to the list, and half because it should be interesting how people respond to being told that their opinion on Japan isn't qualified enough to matter.

Don't have an answer to the headline, but I do have a submission for the Ampontan post linked:

You know you’ve been too long in Japan when you make lists of qualifications other people must obtain to have a "valid opinion" on Japan.

...that are mostly based on age and experience.

...when you can justify your own self-righteousness to yourself while thinking that others are just being self-righteous in a silly way.

Or, at least somebody thinks so ;)

Is that the best you all can come up with?

Come on. Tell us what you think and why we should listen.

The list is about insights, a good laugh, an 'aha' not about who should be included/excluded and why.

How about this one -
You know you can have an opinion on Japan when you have spent a night in the morgue haggling with a funeral director on the price for a good name to live eternally with.

You know you can have a valid opinion on Japan when others put a lot of time and effort telling you and anyone who will listen that you do not have a valid opinion.

...you can't think of anything to add to a list like this except the everyday stuff because living in Japan feels normal.
